An Opportunity?
February 25th, 2008 | Written by The Rev | Topic: SermonsAs I was reading CNN today, wedged between the Britney and Clinton/Obama “news”. I came across this story. Surprisingly I was not consulted for this story, probably because no one really leaves The Big Ring. Spread the word Brothers and Sisters, The Big Ring is rolling.
I am having a bit of a personal quandary as of late. 2 years ago I stripped the Dura Ace off my sweet custom road frame to build a new ‘cross bike. As of today the road frame still sits bare, I raced my cross bike on the road all season(after putting the 53 back on). I find myself with the financing to rebuild the road bike yet no desire. My thinking is, there is ‘cross season and the pre season. Might as well ride the same bike. Thoughts?

Same bike - Amen. If the geometry isn’t slowing you down… no point to switch? Is there really anything other than cross that demands the devotion of the big ring anymore? With few exceptions Road racing lately is as soft as the little ring - Cross is where the big ringers all go to find solace and peace.
No worries on leaving the Church of the Big Ring. As long as the preacher keeps preaching!

Gotta have two bikes…even if the roadie takes a backup role.
I take great joy in the fact that I take my Ridley Helium/Dura Ace bike banging down dirt connector roads when the rest of the group stops and goes arounds…
Big Ring is the attitude, the bike is secondary.

Brothers you have inspired me. The cross bike shall be my weapon of choice for this cross pre season.

Thou shall train on ye bike that ye races on.
Thou shall always train in the big ring.
Amen.
