Shit, Really?

That is what I uttered when i woke up late Sunday to catch the final 20k of Leige and saw Vino in the front group with Contador still with him. Also in attendance were 2 Schlecks (CSC), 2 Katushas, and 2 Caisse d’Épargne, and Cadel. Oh and GIlbert. I knew that both Cadel and Gilbert would be outgunned, they could not possibly cover every attack. When Vino went with Kolobnev I knew that was the race. I also at that moment became an instant Kolbnev fan.

Prior to 2007 I was a huge Vino fan. I loved the way he raced, tactics be damned, attacking just because he could, the absolute panic in the field when he did. He could do no wrong. Then he got busted, I didn’t want to believe, surely this was a mistake. Yet I knew, I knew that there wasn’t Vino was dirty. Fuck.

Fast forward to yesterday. Vino on the attack again. As Phil would say “Stomping on his machine in a most immodest way”. Yet now I was rooting for the other guy. Hoping Vino would crack, flat, something. In the end Vino went on to win his 2nd L-B-L to more than a few boo’s from the Belgian fans. It has been a rough spring for the Belgian fans with Boonen getting out Big Ringed by Cancellara. Gilbert did salvage some pride at Amstel but Vino at this point is just piling on.

Cadel has had a damn fine spring as has Horner. I hope the good form and good luck continues for them both in the Grand Tours. I was really hoping Horner could pull off something special but still he has to be stoked with the legs he has right now. If Cadel had more support in the last bits of L-B-L … oh well next year.

I share your feelings about Vino- total fan pre ’07 tour, total hater after.

Maybe if he’d done ANYTHING to show some remorse, regret, or even a vague apology I would feel differently.
