Smack Down!

I don’t know Lance Armstrong personally. I don’t know if he is a jerk in person or not and really I don’t care.  If I got the chance to meet him I would shake his hand and say “Thank You”.  I would thank him for all he has done for the cancer community.  I would thank him for giving those with no hope, hope.  I would thank him for doing something that he believes in and giving his own time and money to support.

My Mom is a 3 time cancer survivor.  I have seen the strength and courage it takes to battle this disease first hand.  As cyclist we all think we are hard because we ride in the rain or whatever.  My Mom and the millions of people like her who have fought this disease are tougher than anyone I have every raced against.  Lance and the Livestrong movement do more good in a day than bottom feeders like Paul Kimmage will every do in a lifetime. If Lance tests positive then by all means it is open season on Lance. Until then shut up, there are plenty of real stories to be covered at a Tour of California. Cover one!

Like I said I don’t know Lance but I know what he does.  I will be at Tour of California next week and when Lance goes by I will be yelling at the top of my lungs.  Hell ya I will.

If you ask me Lance went too easy on this guy.

Kimmage is a bitch, plain and simple! I likely would have jumped the table and beat his happy Irish ass!
I’m glad Lance is back…it may actually be an interesting year…

  2. The Rev's mom says:

From 1993 to 2006 I battled lymphoma. In 2006 I had a stem cell transplant and was fortunate to have it at Dana Farber. I toured Lance’s foundation and the entire staff sings his praises. The Rev sent me his book, IT’S NOT ABOUT THE BIKE. It inspired me to take up moutain biking one year after my transplant at age 63. I ride 10 miles in the summer and ride the excercise bike in the winter. Lance and, or course, the Rev inspired me to stay fit and I am still cancer free. My doctors were amazed that I was doing this. Thank you Lance and my beloved Rev. I still wear the yellow bracelet. Go Lance, the staff at Dana Farber said he has done more for cancer awareness than any other surviver

  3. RealCyclingFan says:

Armstrong is a man who survived cancer, and he’s done some very commendable awareness and fundraising on behalf of that.

Pharmstrong has already tested positive. Twice.

Cortisone and EPO if you want to look it up.

He has also associated with teammates who tested positive, with Dr. Ferrari, who pioneered advanced drug hiding procedures in the peloton. He was seen doping by many, many teammates and support staff, some of whom have gone on the record.

Unfortunately he has a history of bullying and forcing people to his will, so many won’t speak out against him. One great example is Stage 18 of Tour De France 2004, look it up. Armstrong was investigated by Italian police for “intimidating a witness” at an anti-doping trial.

He gets a special dispensation from UCI to allow him his wonderful return to a team full of convicted dopers.

True heroes like Kimmage ignore being popular and actually try to do the right thing in fighting for a drug free sport. That you call him bottom feeder says more about you than hig.

  4. John the Lawyer says:

    RealCyclingFan misses two major points:

    1. Lance has never tested positive, despite being one of the most tested people in the peloton. Saying “look it up” is nonsense. If he had broken the rules, he would have be on his ass, a la Hamilton, Basso, Landis, Ulrich, et al.

    2. Trying to rip Lance down while he has done so much for those who battle cancer is to do a disservice to humanity. Get your priorities straight. Then maybe I’ll actually give a crap.

Lance is Big Ring on the Big Stage. Deal with it.

  5. patrick says:

interesting. i kinda thought this site was a bit more informed.

lance doped. anyone who has been paying attention and knows anything about cycling knows it.

just because he had cancer(which was likely caused by abuse of ped’s) doesn’t give him license to act like an ass. and the outrage over kimmage’s comment is ridiculous. if you don’t inderstand metaphor, then don’t read.

  6. The Rev says:

Like I said I don’t really care what Lance may have done, I don’t really care that he is coming back. I do care that he is willing to commit to something he believes in.

I don’t condone doping. Yes there is a lot of evidence that he did dope but until WADA or USADA or whoever confirms it then the point is moot. Lance doping is cyclings version of Who Shot Kennedy. I am not a scientist or a lawyer so I really don’t feel qualified saying he is clean or dirty. Suspect yes. 100% clean or 100% dirty, I couldn’t say.

I stand by my comments about Kimmage. That was the wrong venue for him to ask that question, it was a punk move. Who really cares what Lance thinks about Millar, Basso etc? What did that question have to do with AToC? Nothing.

  7. patrick says:

what did kimmage’s question have to do w/ atoc?

-atoc was floyd’s first big race back from suspension.
-atoc was basso’s first major stage race back from suspension.

-it was an armstrong press conference. he asked lance what he thought about those two situations. i think that’s germane.

i think that kimmage’s thesis is that how guys talk about doping is a window into their real stance on the issue is. for example: in ’06 when floyd said that he was sorry that the puerto guys had been excluded from the tour….
