Born and raised in Vermont, I rode some BMX as a kid but never raced. My cycling experience started in Italy at the age of 14. I would mountain bike from the villa where we were staying to the nearest town so that I could get my skateboard on… soon I was riding just cause I liked it.
It was the late 80’s and mountain bike was in full effect so I started racing, as a junior expert I raced the north east and a few NORBAs winning the Grundig World Cup round in Vail CO. in ’91 I think it was.
At the age of 18 it was time to either race with the big boys and try to make it as a Pro Wheel Jock or pursue my passion for working in kitchens while trying to become a sponsored snowboarder… I opted for the latter.
Out of high school in ’93 I moved to Vail to chase the dream. Somehow it worked out and I had an 11 year career as a Shred, high lights include: Being Snowboarder Magazine 5th best rider of the year in 2000, 16 page interview in Transworld Snow in ’99 and making the cover of Snowboarder magazine and Strength in the same month in ’95?.
After 10 years of not cycling, an ACL injury got me back on the bike and I remembered how fun it was. Soon the competitive spirit came back… it was fall time so I started racing cross, and of course fell in love with it. My passion was the mountain bike though and so I started racing Utah Icups and NORBAs eventually getting my Pro license… and realizing that I could make a living on the bike..Especially not on a mountain bike.
Cyclocross seems to be what my ventilatory and circulatory system is best at so I focused on that. These days I enjoy the road scene in the summers and rarely ride the mountain bike.
In my real life I’m a rep for Bell Sports and a Family Man. My wife tolerates my cycling addiction and my little boy puts up with intervals in the Chariot and some how it all works out.
My hobbies include lusting over bike items, Audis, the older ones, rally cars and writing the infamous and one time anonymous L’autobus, the Utah cycling tabloid.
